The short version:
- We never see your contacts. You forward the ask yourself.
- Friends can answer without joining WOMBR. Just a first name.
- Your list goes only to you.
- No location, no tracking, no app.
- We never sell personal information or show ads.
- Send DELETE anytime and you're erased.
The rest of this page is the detail. If anything here and a lawyer's version ever disagree, we fix the lawyer's version.
What we keep
- Your mobile number, and your first name if you give it.
- The area you ask about most.
- What you asked for, like “need a plumber in North Van”.
- The answers your friends sent you.
- Your answer to the one follow-up (who you hired, and how it went).
- A simple activity log (an ask was made, a list was sent) so we can tell if WOMBR works.
You join only by replying YES from your own phone. Signing up on the website just sends that one text.
Who sees what
- Your list: only you.
- Your first name: on the message you forward, so the friends you send it to see it.
- Your friends' answers: go to you. Neighbours only see one if the friend ticked “help neighbours”, and then just the business and note, never a name.
- Recs you add yourself: help neighbours who ask for the same trade. They see the business and your note, never your name or number.
Friends who answer your ask
- They don't need to join WOMBR. They type a business, an optional note and their first name. No app, no account, no phone number.
- A cookie on the answer page stops the same browser answering more than twice.
- They can choose to stay in your circle by adding their number, so their recs reach you next time without you asking. It's only ever their choice. We send them one text to confirm, and LEAVE stops it.
Messages we send
- Replies to what you send us.
- Your list when friends answer, plus any late answers.
- One follow-up about a month later.
Nothing else, and no marketing. On WhatsApp we reply there, but WhatsApp only lets businesses message you within a day of your last message, so anything later comes by text to the same number. Reply STOP on either app and we stop on both. START turns messages back on.
Chatting with WOMBR
If you chat about something other than an ask, WOMBR remembers your last few messages for an hour so its replies make sense, then forgets them. We log only the kind of message (small talk, a privacy question), never the words.
Who helps us run it
- Supabase and Vercel store and serve the data, in North American data centres, encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Twilio sends texts. WhatsApp messages also go through Meta and are covered by WhatsApp's privacy policy too.
- Anthropic's Claude AI reads the words of a message to understand it. It never gets your phone number.
- Google Maps is used to look up a business's number by its name and area when no one has shared it. Nothing about you is sent.
These companies process data for us and may not use it for anything else. We never sell personal information, and we only share data with the companies above to run WOMBR.
Erasing everything
Send DELETE, then DELETE again to confirm. Your number, name, asks, follow-up answers, answers meant only for you and your activity log are erased right away.
Recs that were already shared with neighbours stay, with nothing linking them to you, so the neighbourhood doesn't lose them. Or email hello@wombr.com from anywhere and we'll do it within 7 days.
The earlier Wombr app
If you used the earlier invite-only Wombr app (maps, visits, friends), that data has the same promises: no tracking, no selling, and DELETE by text or an email to hello@wombr.com erases it too.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll message everyone who uses WOMBR before it takes effect, not after.
